MK Roofing and Construction Company was established in 1966 by Robert J. Mulcahy, who specialized in the repair of existing roofs. It has since become one of the largest providers of commercial and residential roofing in the United States. Robert Mulcahy began his career repairing leaky pipes on New York City streets, which required him to flee to Canada in order to avoid arrest. Upon returning to the U.S., he formed the Mulcahy Company and began developing commercial and residential roofing systems. In more recent years, the company has made a name for itself by being responsible for installing the world’s tallest and fastest growing single-ply roofing system. The system is called Solar Spheres and can be seen on the Walkway House building in Vancouver British Columbia as well as multiple other sites throughout the Canadian provinces.
The roofing materials used by Mulcahy and his company are made from only the highest quality materials available. This ensures that the roof will not leak, crack, or rot. Materials are chosen to match the climate and the existing landscape in each area where work may be performed. To this end, MK roofing and construction uses such materials as asphalt shingles, copper, and thermoplastic olefin (TPOE). All of these materials are designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions without deteriorating.
The roofing and construction process begins with the inspection of the existing site. This is done using aerial photographs as well as soil tests. Once all of the information is gathered, it is sent to a qualified engineer, who then determines what type of structure would best fit the area. From here, the engineer designs the roof structure using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software.
The next step of the process is the installation. This involves excavating an adequate base foot in depth of the new structure. This foundation is then secured to the existing roof with steel columns. Once this is completed, the roofing and construction team transports and mounts the roofing and other components, like siding and shingles, on the steel frame.
The final step of the process is the inspection and final approval of the work. This is typically accomplished by an architect or engineer. Once this step has been completed, the MK roofing and construction team can begin the actual work of erecting the roof. If all goes well, the roof will be installed within one to two days, depending on the weather conditions.
Some of the benefits of using the traditional method of roofing and construction is the speed in which the project can be completed. It also allows contractors to complete one job as quickly as possible, while keeping minimum disruption to surrounding properties. Because the work takes place outdoors, there is little chance of inclement weather. Another benefit of installing a traditional roof, like the ones provided by MK, is that it is more durable and stable than alternative types of roofing systems. This will ensure that the roof will remain intact for many years to come.
